How Harmful These Hidden Ingredients Can Impact Male Sexual Health

Okay boys, it’s time to get real. There are supplements all over the place for your sexual health and maybe you even workout regularly (like you’re supposed to) and you’re eating right. Or at least you think you are.

But are you really paying attention the ingredients you’re putting in your body?

The facts are that certain drugs (legal or illegal) can have a negative effect on male fertility (a man’s ability to father a child).

Most importantly you need to know about Testosterone Supplementation. Replacement testosterone (also called supplemental testosterone) has a strong negative effect on sperm production.

Testosterone is the male hormone that’s necessary for a healthy sex drive and the ability to get and maintain a firm erection. Although there is a gradual decrease* in testosterone levels as men age, many younger men have low testosterone levels and can experience a variety of symptoms including erectile dysfunction.

You should also consider anabolic steroids – these are drugs that are used to build muscle mass and/or decrease* body fat. Testosterone is an anabolic steroid. The use of these drugs is increasing* among non competitive athletes and nonathletes. Unfortunately, fitness and muscle building dietary supplements from less reputable sources may be tainted with anabolic steroids.

Also consider cutting back on the following things that all containing some harmful ingredients that can impact male sexual health…

1. Alcohol
Light to moderate alcohol consumption does not appear to affect male fertility. Heavy alcohol drinking, however, may decrease* the production of testosterone, increase* the rate at which testosterone is cleared from the bloodstream, and increase* a man’s estrogen levels. All of this can cause a lower testosterone level, which can harm sperm production. Men who drink four or more alcoholic beverages on a regular basis should consider drinking less.

2. Tobacco
Tobacco use in general and smoking in particular is linked to serious health conditions. There is an entire plethora of research related to how smoking/tobacco affects men’s sexual health… but consider this gentlemen, Smoking is a potential cause of impotence and researchers have shown that smoking can decrease* sexual desire and satisfaction, not to mention smoking can damage smooth muscle inside the penis.

It may also affect penis size! – According to a researcher at Boston University, this may be more of a problem for men who start smoking when they are younger as a result of damage to blood vessels and penile tissues. Smaller penis size, especially if a man was used to a larger size before, can have numerous psychological effects on a man’s well being further exacerbating the underlying physical problem.

3. Marijuana
THC is the active ingredient in marijuana and it decreases* sperm production and weakens sexual drive by interfering with the production of testosterone. THC also has a direct harmful effect on the movement of sperm.

4. Opiates

Include both prescription medications (for treating pain and addiction) and illegal street drugs. Long term use of opiates can disrupt the signals that control testosterone production, which can cause low testosterone and decrease* the quantity and quality of the sperm The extent of the impact depends on the opiates being used, the dose and how long the man is using the opiates.

……And we’re not just talking about drugs here, guys. We’re talking about substances-”Ingredients”. Those little organisms that are working in your system are being disrupted by certain foods you’re putting in your body.

Of course there are certain foods that increase* libido, there are certain others, however, that can just do the opposite. They can have a bad effect on your sex drive and play a dampener. So, consider this list of foods that you should probably avoid before sex:

Food to Avoid
5. Artificial Sweeteners
Contain aspartame. This imposing ingredient can cause problems for your libido due to the adverse effect aspartame has on serotonin. Serotonin plays an important role in your sexual function as a compound present in blood platelets and serum that constricts the blood vessels and acts as a neurotransmitter. The aspartame, in essence reverses or blocks this effect.

6. Corn Flakes
Dr. John Harvey Kellogg is said to have made this cereal as a part of a bland diet to lower people’s sex drive! It’s likely the carbohydrates and grains in the cereal that cause your sex drive to diminish* though.

7. Dairy Products
While calcium has in fact been linked to better sexual health (among men and women), dairy products these days are loaded with synthetic hormones which can throw off the natural hormone production – again in both men and women.

9. Corn Flakes
Dr. John Harvey Kellogg is said to have made this cereal as a part of a bland diet to lower people’s sex drive! It’s likely the carbohydrates and grains in the cereal that cause your sex drive to diminish* though.

10. Fried Foods
Trans fatty acids can cause all kinds of problems in sexual health including abnormal sperm production. It is also stated that trans fat found in fried foods is known to dramatically decrease* the male (and female) libido.

11. Coffee
Coffee contains caffeine, which increases* anxiety, especially in those that experience anxiety already. Increased anxiety is said to lower your sex drive.

12. Chocolate
As chocolate is typically known as a romantic ‘aphrodisiac’, this thought process could be a little backwards, for men anyway – according to one doctor interviewed for Fox News, Dr. Michael Hirt says that it will also suppress* testosterone levels.

13. Microwave Popcorn
There are chemical ingredients in microwave popcorn bags which can significantly lower sperm counts according to one study in 2009 conducted by Environmental Health Perspectives. Even as the study mentions they would prefer to conduct future, larger studies on this concept, keep in mind that the researchers found these chemicals in the lining of these popcorn bags can also lower sex drive.

Consider these things guys. Don’t hesitate to talk to your doctor about your current diet and any needs or questions you may have. These are important factors that should not be overlooked.

Have a Healthy and Happy Sex Life… Do your research before eating that next something…
